Description

The Lake Forest Civic Orchestra looks forward to spring! Two spring-time gardens are depicted to open our program. Mozart’s light and charming overture to “La Finta Giardinera Overture” (“The Pretend Garden Girl”) contrasts to Sibelius’s “Voices of Spring” (Frühlingsstimmen) which evokes the singing of a lark and a nightingale as balmy breezes awaken the fields and meadows, and “spring breaks forth in all its splendor.”  We continue with Lily Boulanger’s a dreamy and atmospheric depiction of a spring morning in “D'un Matin de Printemps” (A Spring Morning) and Johann Strauss’s carefree set of waltzes entitled “Voices of Spring”. Our program closes with Schumann’s Symphony No. 1 “Spring” which the composer himself said “must be filled with the longing for spring.”
